Update: Debian Lenny 5.02 Installer and Intel D945GSEJT

When I installed Debian Lenny on my Intel D945GSEJT home server, I reported that the Debian installer did not recognize the network adapter. With the latest version of the installer (5.02), the r8169 module is loaded, and at least on my system, DHCP autoconfiguration of the network connection succeeds. This is a step up from the previous installer, but r8169 is in fact the wrong kernel module, as reported in this post. What you want is the r8168 module, and you can find instructions on compiling that module in the previous link.

Could you please post some pictures of the D945GSEJT in the mini-itx case you have purchased? Can you use the PCI slot? Thank you in advance.

  2. Thanks for reading my blog! Here you are: http://jonashagmar.blogspot.com/2009/07/by-request-look-inside-intel-d945gsejt.html. Let me know if that was satisfactory.

  3. I have bought D945GSEJT too, and I'm having problem with it. I can't get network card working. My system (tried various versions of ubuntu) just refuses to see it. Can you tell if it is visible after issuing "lspci" command?

  4. Sorry about the delay. The Ethernet shows up in the output of lspci as:

01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 03)

Are you any closer to solving the problem?

  5. @pawel~: I had also this problem and it also wasn't visible under lspci. I googled about 2 days, when I found some mail conference, where someone had same problem.

Solution: This board/BIOS/NIC have bug (also with newest BIOS) - if you run PXE boot, you will have unusable/invisible NIC under OS until you will FULL POWER OFF the board (when I write full, I mean really full - from the adaptor, from the electricity.. the green led on the board must turn off). This occurs every time, you go to the PXE boot, so completely turn off PXE... (gPXE should be ok I think)

    Hope this helps someone.
